These Terms and Conditions govern the use of the UCLA Student Media recruitment portal at apply.uclastudentmedia.com (the “Site”). By registering an account, applying to a position or signing a membership agreement through the Site, you agree to the following terms.
Last updated: October 2026.
ELIGIBILITY
The Site serves currently enrolled UCLA students applying to join a UCLA Student Media publication or department. Positions, deadlines and training requirements are set by UCLA Student Media and by the individual publications, and may be limited by staffing and editorial priorities.
UCLA Student Media reserves the right to decline or close an application, or to remove an account, where these terms have been violated.
YOUR ACCOUNT
You may hold one applicant account. Your BruinCard number identifies you across UCLA Student Media, and an account will be refused where one already exists for that number. If you cannot reach your existing account, use the account recovery links on the sign-in page rather than registering again.
The information you give us must be accurate and your own. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for what is done with your account.
Editors and staff of UCLA Student Media hold a separate account on their media.ucla.edu address. The two are deliberately distinct and are never merged: you apply as yourself and you work as a member of staff.
APPLYING
Applications are submitted through the Site before the deadline the publication has published. A deadline that has passed is closed, and a late application cannot be submitted through the portal.
You may apply to more than one publication. There is no restriction on holding more than one position across different publications, but some publications restrict the number of positions and individual may apply to.
What you upload remains yours. By submitting a résumé, a work sample or an answer, you grant UCLA Student Media permission to store it and to show it to the editors reviewing your application and to Student Media staff administrators.
DECISIONS
Decisions are made by the editors of the publication you applied to. Decisions are released together when the cycle’s decision period closes, rather than one at a time. A decision is final for that cycle, and an applicant who is not accepted is welcome to apply again in a future cycle.
MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT AND TRAINING
Acceptance to a position is conditional. Before you begin, you must sign the Student Media Program Participation Agreement through the Site by the deadline you are given, and you must complete the training workshops your position requires.
Attendance at required workshops is recorded by Student Media. Missing a required check-in may end your participation for that cycle. Workshops are mandated by UCLA Student Media rather than by the individual publication, and the authority to dismiss for a missed requirement belongs to Student Media.
CONDUCT
You agree to use the Site honestly and respectfully. The following are not permitted:
applying as, or on behalf of, another person
creating more than one account
submitting work that is not yours as though it were
attempting to reach information in the portal that is not yours to see
abusive or harassing messages to editors, instructors or staff
UCLA Student Media reserves the right to suspend or remove an account where these standards are not met.
TEXT MESSAGE AND COMMUNICATION
The Site collects your phone number as part of your profile. Where you consent to receive them, UCLA Student Media may contact you by text message about your application, your workshops and your deadlines.
You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text “STOP”. After you send the SMS message “STOP” to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.
If you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the keyword HELP for more assistance, or you can get help directly at [email protected]
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. Message frequency varies with your activity in the portal. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.
Email is how we reach you by default, and some messages are not optional: notices about your account, your application and your membership are sent to the email address on your account whether or not you receive texts.
If you have any questions regarding privacy, please read our Privacy Policy.
AVAILABILITY
We aim to keep the Site available, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error free. Deadlines are published in advance, and you are encouraged not to leave a submission to the final hour.
CHANGES TO TERMS
UCLA Student Media reserves the right to update or modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. Continued use of the Site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
LEGAL DISPUTES
By accessing this Site, you agree that jurisdiction and venue for any and all legal actions or disputes against UCLA Student Media, ASUCLA and any of their employees shall be governed by the laws of the United States of America and the State of California.
