About this role

Daily Bruin’s video team produces award-winning, original visual reporting enjoyed by the UCLA and Westwood communities on our website, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok pages – including the broadcast news style show, On The Steps. Video journalists pitch and take on important stories that bring our community together, give voice to the voiceless and hold people with power to account. They collaborate to source, film and edit high quality videos that meet important ethical standards. Team members have plenty of opportunities for professional development and to collaborate with other sections in the paper, while connecting with our dedicated and friendly videojournalism team. No experience is required to join the team – we’ll teach you everything you need to know and more!

A Daily Bruin Video intern will complete the following tasks:

  • Attend three in-person training sessions, two of which will be led by UCLA Student Media and one of which will be led by the Daily Bruin’s Video team.

  • Contribute to at least three videos produced each quarter.

  • Uphold the Daily Bruin’s ethical standards, including declaring conflicts of interest, refraining from the use of artificial intelligence and avoiding plagiarism.

  • Be willing to take – and learn from – constructive feedback.

  • Communicate with editors and other staffers in a prompt and professional manner.

Over the course of their internship, a Daily Bruin Video intern will learn the following:

  • The fundamentals of video journalism.

  • How to produce long-form videos, social media reels and breaking news.

  • How to use a professional camera and how to get the best results shooting on your phone.

  • How to source and interview effectively.

  • How to edit videos in DaVinci Resolve and other major video editors.

  • The ethical guidelines to which journalists adhere.

  • How to interact with colleagues in a professional environment.

If you have any questions about this application, please email Video editor Max Davis-Housefield at [email protected].
