
About this role
The Sports section covers all of UCLA’s Division I athletic programs. It works with Photo, Copy, Design and other sections to produce online stories daily and articles in print three times a week. Each beat previews contests, writes recaps of games or tournaments, features or personal interest stories about UCLA athletes, and breaking news stories on incoming and outgoing transfers alongside postseason contests. Our Sports section regularly receives national awards at student media competitions.
Outstanding writers may be selected for travel opportunities as they relate to the business needs of the organization.

A Daily Bruin Sports intern will assist in completing the following tasks:
Attend weekly Sports section meetings to enhance their writing and editing skills and build their UCLA sports knowledge.
Report for one to two beats, writing game previews, recaps of tournaments, scouting reports, etc.
Interview athletes and coaches for stories to learn more about the team and its personnel and develop relationships with the respective players.
Over the course of their internship, a Daily Bruin Sports intern will learn the following:
How to write a preview or wrap story.
How to work on deadline to create an accurate and compelling piece of writing.
How to handle interviews with highly regarded coaches and athletes.
Teamwork.
