About this role

The Arts & Entertainment section provides in-depth coverage of the cultural landscape and arts scene both at UCLA and within the greater Los Angeles community, focusing on content of student-interest. The section has three beats: Lifestyle, Music | Fine arts and Theater | Film | Television.

The Music | Fine Arts beat’s coverage includes the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, UCLA School of Arts and Architecture, student bands, student exhibitions and music culture.

The Theater | Film | Television beat covers film, television and theater news on campus and in the surrounding LA area, including the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, student filmmakers, actors, screenwriters and directors.

The Lifestyle beat covers topics including books, food, fashion, wellness, video games, social media and other A&E topics that might not fall under the other beats.

If you have any questions about the A&E section, email Presley Liu at [email protected]

A Daily Bruin Arts & Entertainment intern will complete the following tasks:

  • Write a minimum of 2 A&E feature stories per quarter

  • Attend weekly section meetings/workshops

  • Meet one-on-one with the section beat editors and top editor at least once per story unless instructed otherwise by an editor

Over the course of their internship, a Daily Bruin Arts & Entertainment intern will learn the following:

  • How to craft compelling interviews and feature pieces that thoughtfully engage with film, music, theater, visual arts and pop culture — all through a UCLA and student-centered lens.

  • Develop strong interpersonal and research skills through interviewing artists, performers and cultural figures while producing pieces on a tight deadline

  • Gain experience working within a fast-paced editorial team, participating in section meetings, responding to edits in a timely manner and contributing to the development of A&E content.
