
About this role
As a member of the BruinLife Video Staff, you will work behind the camera to produce engaging video content for the overall BruinLife brand. Video Staff members will collaborate with BruinLife’s podcast hosts, writers, photographers and other staff members to bring their ideas and stories to life through video.
Staff members will focus on the technical and creative aspects of video production, including operating cameras and audio equipment, setting up and recording video shoots, and editing footage into polished content for BruinLife’s streaming services and social media platforms.
Video Staff should be comfortable working collaboratively with others who may provide the concept or direction for a project. Staff members will help determine how those ideas can best be translated into compelling video content while maintaining strong visual, audio and production quality.
Responsibilities
Film and produce video content for BruinLife’s streaming services, social media platforms and other digital projects.
Operate and manage video production equipment, including cameras, microphones, lighting and other recording equipment.
Set up and assist with recording video podcasts, interviews, social media content and other BruinLife productions.
Edit video and audio using multimedia editing software to create polished final products.
Work collaboratively with Video Podcast hosts and other BruinLife sections to translate concepts, scripts and story ideas into finished video content.
Assist with pre-production planning, including determining equipment needs, shot composition, filming logistics and other technical considerations.
Assist with post-production duties, including organizing footage, editing, reviewing content, implementing feedback and preparing final videos for publication.
Maintain and properly handle BruinLife video production equipment.
Contribute creative ideas related to filming, editing, visual storytelling and overall video production.
Table/flyer to promote yearbook portraits and the yearbook.
Complete a minimum of 3 office hours: All BruinLife staff members must fulfill this requirement. Office hours may be completed at any time during the week at your discretion. The purpose of these office hours are to work on BruinLife yearbook assignments in-office, but we also encourage staffers to utilize the office to study, rest, and socialize with other BruinLife members.
Attend all-staff meetings and section meetings.
Complete at least 1 one-on-one with your section editor per quarter.
Qualifications
Prior professional video production experience is not required. Staff workshops and office hours will be available to provide guidance and help staff members develop their production skills.
However, due to the technical nature of the position, applicants with experience or basic knowledge in one or more areas of video production is preferred. This includes camera operation, audio recording, lighting or video editing.
Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve or similar programs is a plus, but is not required.
