About this role

BruinLife’s social media is where most students first discover us, and the Social Media staff is the team behind it. From Instagram posts to TikToks and Reels, you’ll create the content that shows UCLA what BruinLife is all about: our articles, our yearbook, our photo studio and the campus life we capture every day.

As a member of the Social Media staff, you’ll film, edit and post short-form videos, photos and stories that grow BruinLife’s audience and drive yearbook and photo studio sales. You’ll also work alongside other BruinLife sections to turn their articles, photos and projects into content that gets people watching, sharing and talking.

What sets Social Media apart is its focus on the content itself: what we post, how it looks and sounds, and how our audience interacts with it. Marketing, on the other hand, handles the broader strategy of how BruinLife promotes itself, including campaigns, branding, partnerships and outreach.

We are looking for enthusiastic, creative students who aren’t afraid to show off their personality on camera and know how to captivate an audience. Whether you’re interested in being on camera, filming, editing, or coming up with the next big trend idea, there is room to further your interests. Experience editing in Premiere Pro or another editing application is recommended but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Create 1–2 social media videos every week, from concept and filming through editing and posting

  • Pitch 2–3 content ideas at every section meeting

  • Create content that promotes BruinLife articles, the yearbook and the photo studio

  • Collaborate with Marketing to turn campaigns, events and partnerships into social content

  • Work with other BruinLife sections to feature their work on our platforms

  • Stay up to date on trends, sounds and formats across platforms and adapt them for BruinLife

  • Film and cover campus events, tabling and BruinLife happenings

  • Help maintain a consistent BruinLife voice and visual style across all platforms

  • Engage with our audience through comments, stories, polls and interactive content

  • Take ownership of your own content ideas from concept to posting

  • Complete a minimum of 3 office hours: All BruinLife staff members must fulfill this requirement. Office hours may be completed at any time during the week at your discretion. The purpose of these office hours is to work on BruinLife assignments in-office, but we also encourage staffers to utilize the office to study, rest and socialize with other BruinLife members.

  • Attend all-staff meetings and section meetings.

  • Complete at least one one-on-one with your section editor per quarter.

Qualifications

Applicants do not need prior social media experience to apply for this job. There will be staff workshops and office hours available for guidance. However, due to the nature of the position, candidates with basic knowledge of social media skills will be preferred.
