
About this role
BruinLife Copy is responsible for editing all written content for our publications: The BruinLife Annual (our yearbook) and BruinLife Online (our lifestyle magazine).
The BruinLife Annual’s main objective is to give the UCLA student body an accurate reflection of the school year through photos and stories by Bruins and about Bruins, offering UCLA students a reflective keepsake of their time on campus. BruinLife Online aims to provide lifestyle and entertainment content to the UCLA community. This includes guides to LA, tips for apartment hunting, reviews of local shows and movies, trend alerts, etc.
Copy staff edits all articles for grammar, AP style, clarity, coherence, factual accuracy, sensitivity and consistency. Our team ensures every article is polished, professional and ready for publication on deadline.
Responsibilities
Edit BruinLife articles, headlines and photo captions
Provide writers with constructive feedback and support.
Read closely for tone and context—language should inform, not alienate. We want to help the reader as much as possible.
Attend all-staff meetings and section meetings.
Attend at least 1 all staff social per quarter
Attend at least 1 section social per quarter
Complete at least 1 one-on-one with your section editor per quarter. Complete a minimum of 3 office hours a week: All BruinLife staff members must fulfill this requirement. Office hours may be completed at any time during the week at your discretion. The purposes of these office hours are to work on BruinLife assignments in-office, but we also encourage staffers to utilize the office to study, rest and socialize with other BruinLife members.

Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
Desire to grow, collaborate and get involved
Clear, respectful, and open communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Familiarity with AP Style is a plus (but not required—we’ll teach you!)
