Pacific Ties Newsmagazine was created in 1977, becoming the first Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) student publication in the country. Our newsmagazine was born out of anti-imperialist activism, and we strive to uphold these values as a publication. We encourage our staff to utilize our platform to speak out against injustice within and outside of the APIDA community.
As a social media intern for Pacific Ties, you are responsible for facilitating the overall visual aesthetic of the newsmagazine on our social platforms and encouraging readership on our website. You are also required to attend weekly staff meetings. Our social media team's goal is to create multimedia content that is timely, engaging, and informative. You will plan, create, and implement digital campaigns that reflect Pacific Ties’ core values of inclusivity and advocacy. We encourage you to collaborate with the PT staff and wider UCLA APIDA community to develop consistent content on our social media accounts. You can find us on Instagram (@pacifictiesmag), Twitter (@pacificties), and soon on TikTok!
We are looking for passionate, organized students who are up-to-date on current events, sociopolitical issues, and social media trends! Applicants can come from any major and do not need prior journalism experience to apply.
If your application is accepted, you will be contacted by email for a short interview. Please note that mandatory media law and journalism training for new staff members will occur following acceptance of the position, tentatively slated for Oct. 19 & 20, Oct. 26 & 27, and Nov. 2 & 3. (Not all days may be necessary. More info will be given closer to the trainings!)
If you have any questions, please reach out to Julianne Le at [email protected] or @pacifictiesmag on Instagram.
