Pacific Ties Newsmagazine was created in 1977, becoming the first Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) student publication in the country. Our newsmagazine was born out of anti-imperialist activism, and we strive to uphold these values as a publication. We encourage our staff to utilize our platform to speak out against injustice within and outside of the APIDA community.
As a Pacific Ties copy editor, you will be responsible for attending weekly staff meetings and working closely with writers to fact-check and correct grammar, spelling, and style errors before articles are published both online and in print. As copy editor, you will help the staff finalize their pieces before reviewed by the section editor. Grammatical, punctuation, word flow, and spelling errors should be your main priority, but stay alert of anything that might go against our style guide.
We are looking for dedicated students with strong attention to detail. Applicants can come from any major and do not need prior journalism experience to apply.
If your application is accepted, you will be contacted by email for a short interview. Please note that mandatory media law and writing training for new staff members will occur following acceptance of the position, tentatively slated for Oct. 19 & 20, Oct. 26 & 27, and Nov. 2 & 3. (Not all days will be necessary. More info will be given closer to the trainings!)
