As a Pacific Ties copy editor, you will be responsible for attending weekly staff meetings and working closely with writers to fact-check and correct grammar, spelling, and style errors before articles are published both online and in print. As copy editor, you will help the staff finalize their pieces before reviewed by the Editor-In-Chief. Grammatical, punctuation, word flow, and spelling errors should be your main priority but stay alert of anything that might go against our style guide.
There is a minimum 3 office hours per week, to be met at any time that the building is open. Copy editors do not need previous journalism experience. A background in English or strong editing skills are preferred, but we will provide training to supplement. We want people who think critically and are willing to work. There will also be Student Media training sessions taught by professionals and office hours available for guidance.
Please note that there will also be mandatory copy editing training sessions and a media law training for new copy editors on the weekends of Weeks 3 and 4. Times and location TBA.
