Overview: As a Pacific Ties copy editor, you will be responsible for attending staff meetings and working closely with writers to fact-check and correct grammar, spelling, and style errors before articles are published both online and in print. As a copy editor, you will help the staff finalize their pieces before reviewed by the Editor-In-Chief. Grammatical, punctuation, word flow, and spelling errors should be your main priority but stay alert of anything that might go against our style guide.
Copy editors do not need previous journalism experience. A background in English or strong editing skills are preferred, but we will provide training to supplement. We want people who think critically and are willing to work. There will also be Student Media training sessions taught by professionals and office hours available for guidance.
What You Will Do: -> Be responsible for your assignments and meet deadlines. -> Engage in discussions about the APIDA community. -> Copy edit multiple articles 2-3 days per week for the website -> Copy edit assigned articles for quarterly print issue -> Edit based on most current AP Style guidelines -> Actively participate in Pacific Ties events and outreach.
