Overview: A Pacific Ties designer is responsible for working closely with writers in laying out pages, facilitating the overall design process of the print issue, producing visual components to supplement the writer’s work, and producing flyers and other promotional material. Designers may also submit original artwork/illustrations/photos for publication, either as a stand alone piece or in collaboration with a writing piece. Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva and/or other creative platforms is preferred, but experience with Adobe InDesign is necessary.
There is a minimum 3 office hours per week, to be met at any time that the building is open. Office hour time can be used to review visual designs, to collaborate with other staff members, and more. There will Student Media training sessions taught by professionals and office hours available for guidance.
Please note that mandatory media law training and writing training for new staff writers will occur on the weekends of week 3-5: January 25-26, February 1-2, and February 8-9. Location and times TBA.
