OVERVIEW - Photographers are an essential part of Nommo staff, and are tasked with bringing beautiful visuals to magazine production. As the saying goes, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” At Nommo, photos are the windows to the world and possess a power that words cannot encapsulate. Photography interns do not need previous photography experience but should have a strong conceptual vision and a willingness to learn the ins and outs of photography. Photographers are expected to elevate Black stories through their photos and should feel comfortable working with staff writers and social media to deliver a unified visual experience.
DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES - The photography staff is responsible for providing content for Nommo’s print, online, and social media presence. This includes finding, sourcing, and crediting stock images, planning, capturing, and directing conceptual photoshoots for magazine covers and spreads, editing their own photos, and communicating with writing and social media staff to provide content updates. Photography interns are responsible for producing 1 conceptual photo set of 8 photos per quarter in addition to any photos used for digital or print articles. Their work should be thoughtful, intentional, and representative of the content they accompany.
Photography staff is expected to attend any all-staff meetings (twice a quarter) and photography staff meetings as directed by their editor. Nommo is a collaborative effort and all staffers should be effective communicators.
Thank you for your time and effort! We look forward to building a staff of creative and invested individuals for this years’ publication! Email [email protected] with any questions.
