ABOUT NOMMO

Established in 1968 as the first ethnic publication on a public university campus, Nommo Newsmagazine has been a journalistic voice for Afrikan students and communities everywhere. From our written works critiquing the complacency of the university in war crimes to our visual artworks re-imagining the injustices of the incarceration complex, we have continued to nourish the roots of Nommo's liberating storytelling aimed at telling the narratives of the most marginalized. As a result, Nommo believes in the freedom of press as a means of upholding human rights - not as a weapon to dismantle them.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Photographers will collaborate with writers and social media staff to capture stories, reports, and social events. We are open to a variety of photographic styles as well as larger projects (ie. portrait series). On top of creating artworks, photographers are expected to attend mandatory weekly all-staff meetings to reconvene, update on progress, and get to know the publication!

TRAINING

Please note that there is mandatory Student Media training for new interns. Student Media training usually occurs on the weekends after Weeks 2, 3 and 4. Further details will be provided upon acceptance.
