La Gente is seeking interns with a passion for writing. The ideal applicant is interested in critically engaging with issues that affect the Latine community at UCLA and beyond. This could be through reporting, interviews, research, or even creative pieces. Through this position, you will learn how the editorial process works. You will work directly with your editor in creating timely, concise, and dynamic content that is relevant to not only the Latine community at UCLA, but also the many marginalized identities that are not adequately represented on campus.
As a writing intern, your responsibilities include active participation at mandatory weekly meetings, staying in contact with your assigned editor, and working towards La Gente's mission of inclusivity, advocacy, and integrity.
To successfully complete the internship by the end of the quarter, you must have completed the following tasks to your editor's satisfaction:
1. Written 2 published articles (1 must be an original pitch)
2. Assisted with the promotion of the quarterly print issue
3. Attended weekly meetings (Date TBD)
In addition to trainings for specific positions, all Student Media interns/staff are required to attend a mandatory Journalism 101 & Media Law which take place on the same day. Trainings will happen on Sundays in October. All interns must complete each training with no exceptions.
