La Gente is seeking interns that are interested in critically engaging with thought-provoking issues that affect the Latine community at UCLA and beyond. In this position, you will learn how the editorial process works. You will work directly with your editor in creating timely, concise, and dynamic content that is relevant to the Latine community at UCLA. Here at La Gente, we seek to be representative of all Latines. We are looking for writers across all Latine identities who will explore the complexities of their Latine identities and those of the Latine community. While Latinidad is the filter through which we work, we are not limited to writing solely about our Latinidad. We encourage our writers to explore their various intersecting identities.
As a writing intern, your responsibilities include active participation at mandatory weekly meetings, staying in contact with your assigned editor, and working towards La Gente's mission of inclusivity, advocacy, and integrity.
To successfully complete the internship by the end of the quarter, you must have completed the following tasks to your editor's satisfaction: 1. Published 3 articles on web (1 news, 1 personal, and 1 of your choice) 2. Assisted with the promotion of the quarterly print issue 3. Attended 7/10 weekly meetings (TBD)
In addition to position-specific trainings, all Student Media interns must attend mandatory Journalism 101 & Media Law presentations, which take place on the same day. All applicants must attend all trainings over the course of three weekends, beginning the weekend of week 2. Interviews with the editors will be scheduled during week 2, Jan. 13-16.
