As a La Gente video intern, you will focus on creating content that is innovative, imaginative, and dynamic that reflect our core values of community self-determination, social justice, and equity for all oppressed peoples. Further, you will learn the ins and outs of producing/publishing content on a media platform. As a part of the video team, you will join creative people and artists from many fields to hold brainstorming sessions and produce video content for articles, social media, and independent projects. You will learn how to keep a coherent visual look while working with a multitude of styles.
To successfully complete the internship by the end of the quarter, you must have completed the following tasks to your editor's satisfaction:
Produce a minimum of one short form video, as assigned by editorial staff.
Produce a minimum of one short form video of your own creative choice.
Assist the video editor in the production of quarterly video projects (usually centers on a theme).
Attend a minimum of seven weekly meetings (TBD).
Attend a minimum of one cultural community/school event.
In addition to position-specific training, all interns are required to attend mandatory training as provided by Student Media on the following tentative dates January 25th and 26th, and February 1st. (Further information will be provided once accepted as an intern). Interviews with the editorial staff will be scheduled during Week 2.
Additionally, with completion of the internship, you may also join one of the following teams:
Radio – Our weekly live podcast that covers topics like art, entertainment, news, politics, community organizing, and Latinidad! With dynamic conversations and guest appearances, this team expands the meaning of media coverage. Marketing/Social Media – This team creates multimedia campaigns to increase community engagement on all our platforms- Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), and Instagram. Through content-creation, we reflect La Gente’s core values of community self-determination, social justice, and equality for all oppressed peoples. This position requires awareness of media trends and news development.
