Please note that photography falls under our larger visuals team.
La Gente is seeking interns with a passion for discussing Latine joys and struggles through their photography. As a photography intern, you will work with the Head of Visuals and the visuals team to plan and execute photoshoots, whether related to our quarterly print issue or not. You will go out into the community and capture events, protests, daily life, etc at UCLA, Southern California, and abroad. Your work can be used for web articles, photo series, special projects, flyers, and our quarterly print issue. While we are a Latine-based magazine, that is only the lens through which we work. As a member of La Gente, your work is not limited to Latine matters. We encourage our members to explore their intersecting identities through whichever position they choose to apply to.
To successfully complete the internship by the end of the quarter, you must have completed the following tasks to your editor's satisfaction: 1. Published a series of at least 5 photos on our website 2. Contributed at least 1 photo to a web article 3. Assisted with the promotion of the quarterly print issue 4. Attended 7/10 weekly meetings (TBD)
In addition to position-specific trainings, all Student Media interns must attend mandatory Journalism 101 & Media Law presentations, which take place on the same day. All applicants must attend all trainings over the course of three weekends, beginning the weekend of week 2. Interviews with the editors will be scheduled during week 2, Jan. 13-16.
