Knowledge of InDesign is not required but highly encouraged La Gente is seeking layout and design interns to assist the layout-design editor to design our quarterly print issue. You will facilitate the overall design process and work closely with the editorial staff in ensuring a cohesive aesthetic/thematic appearance. The design intern will be tasked with the digital layout of printed and virtual materials.

To successfully complete the internship by the end of the quarter, you must have completed the following tasks to your editor's satisfaction: Assisted with the creation of the layout for the quarterly print issue as delegated by the layout/design editor. Assisted with the promotion of the quarterly print issue. Assisted with the design development of La Gente’s website. Attend a minimum of seven weekly meetings (TBD). Attend a minimum of one cultural community/school event.

In addition to position-specific training, all interns are required to attend mandatory training as provided by Student Media on the following tentative dates: October 18th, 19th, 25th, & 26th, and November 1st and 2nd (Trainings take place over ONE weekend, NOT THREE. Further information will be provided once accepted as an intern). Interviews with the editorial staff will be scheduled during Week 2.

Radio – Our weekly live podcast that covers topics like art, entertainment, news, politics, community organizing, and Latinidad! With dynamic conversations and guest appearances, this team expands the meaning of media coverage. Marketing/Social Media – This team creates multimedia campaigns to increase community engagement on all our platforms- Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), and Instagram. Through content-creation, we reflect La Gente’s core values of community self-determination, social justice, and equality for all oppressed peoples. This position requires awareness of media trends and news development.
