La Gente is seeking copy interns to assist in the editorial process. As a copy intern, you will proofread and edit the staff's pieces before being reviewed by the editor-in-chief and published. Errors in grammar, punctuation, word flow, and spelling should be your main priorities, but stay alert for anything that might go against the AP style guide. In this position, you will develop a relationship with the rest of the team and learn the ins and outs of producing/publishing content for articles. Some familiarity with the AP style guide is preferred, but not required.
To successfully complete the internship by the end of the quarter, you must have completed the following tasks to your editor's satisfaction: 1. Copy edited at least 2 web articles 2. Copy edited at least 1 article for the print issue 3. Assisted with the promotion of the quarterly print issue 4. Attended 7/10 weekly meetings (TBD)
In addition to position-specific trainings, all Student Media interns must attend mandatory Journalism 101 & Media Law presentations, which take place on the same day. All interns must attend mandatory trainings by Student Media. Trainings will occur over the following 2-3 weekends, starting with the weekend of week 2.
Interviews will be scheduled during week 2, Jan. 13-16.
