La Gente is seeking copy interns to assist in the editorial process. As a copy intern, you will proofread and edit all written material before finalization and publishing. Errors in grammar, punctuation, word flow, and spelling should be your main priorities, but stay alert for anything that might go against the AP style guide. In this position, you will also prioritize fact-checking and ensuring all information not originating from the writer is correctly cited. As an intern, you will develop a relationship with the rest of the writing team and learn the ins and outs of producing/publishing on a news media platform. Some familiarity with the AP style guide is preferred, but not required.
To successfully complete the internship by the end of the quarter, interns must have completed the following tasks to your editor's satisfaction: Edit a minimum of two articles, as assigned by the editorial staff. Edit a minimum of two written materials (ex. Social media posts, non-article publications), as assigned by the editorial staff. Attend La Gente orientation. Attend a minimum of seven weekly meetings (TBD). Attend a minimum of one cultural community/school event.
In addition to position-specific training, all interns are required to attend mandatory training as provided by Student Media on the following tentative dates January 25th and 26th, and February 1st. (Further information will be provided once accepted as an intern). Interviews with the editorial staff will be scheduled during Week 2.

Radio – Our weekly live podcast that covers topics like art, entertainment, news, politics, community organizing, and Latinidad! With dynamic conversations and guest appearances, this team expands the meaning of media coverage. Marketing/Social Media – This team creates multimedia campaigns to increase community engagement on all our platforms- Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), and Instagram. Through content-creation, we reflect La Gente’s core values of community self-determination, social justice, and equality for all oppressed peoples. This position requires awareness of media trends and news development.
