ILLUSTRATIONS

The Illustrations section draws illustrations, headers and animations to communicate the paper’s stories through a visual medium. It works with almost all of the Daily Bruin sections by taking requests for standard illustrations, print covers, headers, flatpages and animations. It also produces its original standalone illustrations.

Illustrating for the Daily Bruin teaches one to think creatively and add their own touch on a project, while maintaining the original intent. Illustrations has won several California College Media Association Awards. If you have any questions about the Illustrations section, please email Helen Juwon Park at [email protected]

A Daily Bruin Illustrations intern will assist in completing the following tasks:

Attending section training and media training.

Take a request under the supervision of the Director and Supervisors.

Completing at least one illustration every two weeks, five in total for the entire quarter.

Over the course of their internship, a Daily Bruin Illustrations intern will learn the following:

Communication with writers and editors.

Collaboration by taking writers’ stories and intent and depicting them in a new perspective through visual medium.

Creative ideation by pushing visual expression for illustrations and avoiding typical representation of ideas.

CARTOONS

Cartoons is a newly merged section with the Illustration section, and together, they work to create artworks and pieces for column sections as well as creating their own standalones.
