The Data and Graphics section creates informative and appealing visualizations that aim to break down complex datasets, university processes and other areas of interest into an easily digestible manner for the UCLA community. It works with Online to embed interactives into the main Daily Bruin website to display the statistics often discussed in News, Sports and Enterprise articles in an engaging way.

Data and Graphics utilize the following applications in our work: VSCode, Chart Js and Adobe Illustrator. In the past, we have won awards for best visualizations.

Interns will apply directly to one of the two parts of the section

A Daily Bruin Graphics intern will assist in completing the following tasks:

Learn how to visualize information in an explanatory and engaging way (textual, numerical, spatial, etc.)

Learn different Graphics software (Adobe CC, Figma, Tableau, etc.)

Understand the basics of reporting in the context of graphics journalism.

Over the course of their internship, a Daily Bruin Data and Graphics intern will learn the following:

Journalistic writing style.

Familiarity with mainstream tools used in data science and/or graphic design.

Teamwork, communication and patience!
