About the position

New for the 2024-25 academic year, Bruin Life's Food section is looking for strong writers with an eye for detail, a love for storytelling and a genuine interest in all things food.

Your responsibilities will include exploring local restaurants, cafes and food trucks, reviewing dining experiences, and writing in-depth pieces about food trends, student-friendly recipes, and cultural cuisines. You'll connect with the Bruin community through your writing, inspiring fellow food enthusiasts and showcasing the best dining options Los Angeles has to offer.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch ideas, covering a range of events and topics for BruinLife's Food section.
  • Write 6 articles posts per quarter.
  • Complete a minimum of 3 office hours: All BruinLife staff members must fulfill this requirement. Office hours may be completed at any time during the week at your discretion. The purposes of these office hours are to work on BruinLife assignments in-office, but we also encourage staffers to utilize the office to study, rest and socialize with other BruinLife members.
  • Attend all-staff meetings and section meetings.
  • Complete at least one one-on-one with your section editor per quarter.

Qualifications

Applicants do not need prior writing experience to apply for this position. There will be Student Media training sessions taught by professionals, staff workshops and office hours available for guidance. However, due to the nature of the position, writers with organized, engaging and succinct writing abilities will be preferred.

Training

Please note that there is mandatory Student Media training for new interns, as well as trainings held by your section editor. Student Media training usually occurs on the weekends after Weeks 2, 3 and 4. Further details will be provided upon acceptance.
