The Design Staff for BruinLife Online is responsible for online design for social media and our website along with designing for our print products (magazine, flyers)
Staff members handle strict deadlines to ensure each article and photograph integrates with page spreads and contributes to overall magazine consistency.
Overall, the Design team serve as project managers for projects related to print products and online projects. Responsibilities of being such project manager include communicating with the photo staff and writing staff to ensure materials are turned in on time to get the layout completed within the main deadline.
The BruinLife Annual’s (aka yearbook) main objective is to give the UCLA student body an accurate reflection of the school year through photos and stories by Bruins and about Bruins. BruinLife Online aims to provide lifestyle and entertainment content to the UCLA community, distinct from Daily Bruin’s campus news. This includes guides to LA, tips for apartment hunting, reviews of local shows, trend alerts, etc. in blog-style articles.
Applicants NEED basic prior layout or design experience to apply for this position. There will be Student Media training sessions taught by professionals, staff workshops and office hours available for guidance. However, due to the nature of the position, layout and design interns with basic knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop will be preferred.
Please note that there is mandatory Student Media training for new interns, as well as any trainings held by your section editor. Student Media training usually occurs on the weekends after Weeks 2, 3 and 4. Further details will be provided upon acceptance.
