As a staff writer, you will be responsible for attending weekly staff meetings, pitching ideas, covering a range of events and topics relevant to the APIDA community at UCLA, in Los Angeles, or in the nation and beyond, and, most importantly, publishing articles on a regular basis. The forms of writing a Staff Writer may contribute includes, but is not limited to: news reporting, opinion pieces, blog posts, reviews, short story, poetry… Applicants do not need prior news writing experience to apply for this job. There will Student Media training sessions taught by professionals, staff workshops, and office hours available for guidance. However, due to the nature of the position, writers with organized, persuasive, and succinct writing abilities will be preferred.
Please note that mandatory media law training and writing training for new staff writers will occur on the weekend of October 20-21 and October 27-28. Location and times TBA.
