As a staff writer, your role as a part of La Gente consists of furthering connections to the magazine, UCLA, and the Latinx communities through your articles. In order to do so, you will pitch your ideas to your editor(s), remit information to the visual team, and organize our blog content posting timeline.
In order to prepare you we have a couple mandatory trainings, if there are issues with these dates inform us ASAP:
-Two Student Media training sessions (be prepared to dedicate two Saturdays or Sundays);
-Trainings are on January 26 & February 2nd or January 27 & February 3rd. The specific dates for Art & Entertainment and Opinion training is TBA.
-One Media Law training TBA, although it is usually held a Thursday after either week of the trainings.
-Write a minimum of 3 blog articles.
-Write a minimum of 1 print article.
Tasks throughout the quarter include:
- 1 hour dedicated to social media, flyering, outreach, fundraising, etc. (your choice). per week
- 2 hour participation hours per week (General Meetings and Office hours both contribute to these)
General Meetings are held weekly on Wednesdays at 7 pm.
These are the bare bones of your position, but depending on your preferences and skills we can allocate your time to a specific task.
