Ha’Am has been the official student-run Jewish newsmagazine at UCLA since 1972. We are a hybrid, online and print publication that aims to inform both the UCLA student body and the larger Los Angeles community of Jewish happenings and opinions on campus. Our team strives to uphold Jewish values and to instill within our ranks journalistic integrity of the highest order. Together, we engage and grapple with our tradition in the hopes of enriching our diverse experiences.

Writers Open

Overview

Writers are the backbone of Ha’Am. The responsibilities of a writer is to contribute quarterly  2-3 written pieces that will be published online of about 500 words. Along with a longer 800-1000 word piece that will be published in the quarterly print edition. Writers must come to weekly meetings (meeting time is tbd) and must log two office hours in the Ha’Am office per week (there will be snacks!) in which a writer could work on Ha’Am pieces, or general school work. A writer will have direct communication to the writing editor.

Weekly time commitment: 2-3 hours

Layout Staff Open

OVERVIEW

Layout staff is responsible to create an appealing, attractive, and immersive layout for the print publications that are published quarterly. Layout staff should have proficiency is layout and design programs such as Adobe Illustrator.

All staff is required to spend 2 office hours in the Ha’Am student media office either working on Ha’Am work or general school work.

Weekly time commitment: 1.5 hour a week

Social Media Intern Open

Overview

The social media editor is also known as the marketing editor and is responsible for fostering a social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. This includes daily posting of content on all official Ha’Am social media accounts. This position also includes assisting in planning monthly social events including small parties, karaoke nights, open mic nights, etc. The possibilities are endless!

Photographer/Videographer Open

OVERVIEW

Photographers/Videographers will receive assignments from the photo/video Editor to take photos or videos that will either accompany other articles or will be stand alone pieces that reflect the Jewish community on campus. This position also allows for personal creativity to seep threw as we encourage new ideas that are engaging, exciting, and appealing. This could take from in anything from Buzzfeed-like material to short Tasty videos to 30-second documentaries. Exciting new addition to the team so we’re looking forward to seeing all the creativity and innovation to come!
