PRIME is the Daily Bruin’s award-winning quarterly magazine, covering a wide array of topics related to UCLA and Westwood. In the past, we have published investigations on the course enrollment black market and animal experimentation at UCLA, told the stories of formerly incarcerated students and Westwood businesses and explored events like the Roebling fires and Big Gay Party. Some contributors have also written personal columns about topics like growing up with immigrant parents and having family members with chronic illnesses. PRIME stories typically require in-depth reporting, strong writing and a knack for narrative storytelling. If you're interested in pursuing a career in journalism or longer-form writing, PRIME is a great place to learn more about the Westwood community, make friends in the newsroom and start building a portfolio of journalism clips. Contributors to the magazine have gone on to work for The New York Times, Variety, Bloomberg, The Hollywood Reporter, The Wall Street Journal and Los Angeles Magazine.
If you have a love for storytelling and a drive to uncover untold experiences in our community, please apply to our award winning magazine! Reporting and writing training will be provided, but applicants should present a strong writing skill set in their application.
Applicants can be from any major at UCLA. All applicants must be able to attend Student Media training, currently scheduled for Oct. 19 & 20, Oct. 26 & 27, and Nov. 2 & 3.
