As a FEM contributor, you are expected to write articles at least three times a quarter. Your articles will be related to one section (Gendertainment, Dialogue and Opinion, Campus Life, Politics, or Arts and Creative), though you will be able to pitch for other sections as well. You will be expected to attend MANDATORY training sessions at the beginning of Winter quarter (dates TBD), so please keep these in mind when you apply. Your articles will be published online on our website after they pass through the editing process, and you will also have the opportunity to contribute to FEM's Spring 2017 print issue! Also, if you are accepted, you will have ample opportunity as a staff member for possible promotions throughout future quarters, such as staff writer, copy and/or content editor, assistant editor, etc. If you have any questions, feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org, or email@example.com.
All applications are due by FRIDAY of WEEK 1 (JAN. 13th, 2017) at 11:59 PM!
*If you'd like to be a part of the Art and Design team as well, please fill out both applications!
Please write no more than 300 words per question.
How did you hear about FEM?
What do you think it means to be a feminist?
If you have had any prior high school, junior college, or college journalism or media experience please list and explain here. (This is not necessary to apply.)
What other feminist publications (magazines, blogs, etc.) do you read or follow?
Why is it important to have a newsmagazine dedicated to feminist issues here on campus?
Please check up to three positions that you might be interested in. If you're not interested in any, please check "None."
Under the "Attached Files" section at the top of this application, you will find a Daily Bruin news article attached as a Word Document. Please read it and answer the following question: How would you modify the article to align with FEM's mission statement, while retaining the "news aspects" of the article?
(We're a newsmagazine, so news-based articles are important! But think: how can you share similar or new information through a feminist perspective?)
Come up with 3 story ideas for FEM. Write the title and the first few sentences for each one.
(Be as creative as possible! What would you want to read or write about?)
Please attach up to 2 writing samples. They can be anything, from creative writing pieces to academic papers, so long as they are your own work. If you are attaching an academic paper, please only attach the first couple pages of your essay. PLEASE UPLOAD PDFs ONLY.
Are there any additional comments that you'd like to add? (Again, if not, just say "None" please.)
