Graphics is a multimedia section within the Daily Bruin that creates compelling and comprehensive visual aids that correspond to a story. We also create standalone graphics which are entirely produced within our section, from conception to completion of the graphic. As a Graphics intern, you will learn the basics of Adobe Illustrator, collaborate with other sections and produce art from data. We welcome any and all applicants from all majors and levels of experience. No previous experience is required. Application Questions

Why do you want to join the Daily Bruin Graphics department? What will you contribute to our team?

Do you have past experience in graphics or design? If so, please provide a description of it, including the design software, such as Adobe Illustrator, you used. If not, please list any other experience you feel is relevant.

Please provide links to two Daily Bruin graphics and evaluate them for comprehension and aesthetic.

Please provide a link to one effective graphic from a source other than the Daily Bruin, such as another student newspaper, blog or media outlet. Briefly explain why you have picked this graphic.

If you find more than one inspiring graphics. you may provide bonus links-- no explanation required,

Note: If you have experience using a digital design program, please use that program for this mock-up. Otherwise, a photograph of a sketch is sufficient.

While graphics usually accompany a story written by another reporter, we also produce standalone graphics that we pitch and produce completely on our own. Examples include Jogging Routes and Frugal Grocery Shopping. Please pitch two standalone graphics, give a rough description of how it should look, and how it relates to the UCLA student population.

Larger standalone graphics require research, design and layout to be split into separate tasks for graphic reporters. In such situations, which task would you prefer and why?

About how many graphics do you expect to be able contribute per quarter?
